On Thursday 13 December, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation in the Netherlands, together with Dutch Health Architects and 11 other Dutch companies, signed the covenant ‘Partners for International Business – Task Force Healthcare goes Russia’. The signing took place at NL Agency in The Hague.

The aim of this covenant is to secure good access to the Russian healthcare market. Increasing awareness in Russia of the high standard in the Dutch healthcare sector is the focus. Dutch companies united in Task Force Healthcare (TFHC) can, thanks to the efforts of the central government, strengthen their position in the Russian market, and they hope to obtain big healthcare projects as a result. In addition, Dutch centres of knowledge can intensify the sharing of expertise with top Russian institutions. The objective is to establish joint ventures and PPP ventures (Public Private Partnership) with Russian companies and government agencies. At present, efforts are focusing on four regions: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tomsk and Tatarstan.

Cooperating partners
The participants in this cooperative project are: Philips Healthcare, DSM, Simed International, Enraf Nonius, Lamboo, Nucletron, Dräger, MeduProf-S, Maastricht University, Royal Tropical Institute, University of Groningen and Dutch Health Architects.

The government bodies involved in the implementation of the covenant are:

  • Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, including the Directorate-General for Foreign Economic Affairs, and NL Agency;
  • Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS);
  • Royal Netherlands Embassy in Moscow, including its Economic Department, the Innovation Attaché, and the Consulate-General in Saint Petersburg.

Netherlands-Russia Year 2013
The covenant is fully in keeping with the bilateral Netherlands-Russia Year 2013, in which the Netherlands is organising a broad programme of economic, cultural and social activities in Russia.

Relations between the Netherlands and Russia enjoy a rich and centuries-old history. Right from the start, trade and innovation have been the focus. In recent decades in particular, relations have broadened and deepened further: not only at government level but also between companies, cultural partners, educational and academic institutions, and social organisations. In 2009 the Netherlands accepted a Russian invitation to organise a Netherlands-Russia Year in 2013.
