During the European Healthcare Design Congress 2018 in London, former EGM partner Bas Molenaar received the Susan Francis Design Champion Award 2018. The special and individual prize is awarded to a visionary leader in healthcare. EGM architects congratulates Bas wholeheartedly with this special award.

Bas Molenaar received the award for his talent, dedication and impact on the architecture of healthcare. According to the jury, he personifies the essence of the prize during his collaboration with the many stakeholders around the world, actively disseminating his knowledge and expertise, inspiring students, and last but not least as an architect of projects such as the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital in Utrecht, the Tony Molleapaza Children's Hospital in Peru and the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam.

Bas Molenaar started his career at EGM with Prof. dr. Wout Eijkelenboom, one of the founders of our office, after which he became partner in 1993. In addition, he was also Professor of Construction and Health Care at the Technical University in Eindhoven from 2004 to 2010. With his expertise in health care, he was the lead architect of the Radboudumc Building A and of the Erasmus Medical Center, the largest design and construction assignment in the care sector of Western Europe, which officially will be opened this September. Bas has passed on his architectural vision and his knowledge of health care within EGM, still finding their way into  our projects on a daily basis.

After receiving the award, Bas Molenaar thanked his clients, students and EGM colleagues. Characteristic of Bas's view was his comment 'I like people more than buildings'. He concluded with the inspiring words: 'Architecture has no boundaries'.
