The outpatient pharmacy at Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG) proves that efficiency and warmth can go hand in hand. This modern pharmacy welcomes everyone: from local residents and hospital visitors to the hospital staff themselves.
View the entire projectStrategically located on the light street, the main artery of OLVG, this ground floor pharmacy offers everything you need. Whether you're picking up medication after an outpatient visit, a hospital stay, or just something for home. EGM architects created a space where modern technology and human-centered care come together.
The heart of the pharmacy is the curved display wall that elegantly separates front and back office. But here's what's special: you can see the high-tech dispensing robot at work. Ordered medications appear as if by magic in the dispensing compartments, right before customers' eyes. This transparency builds trust and reduces waiting times, a win win for everyone.
The curved wall itself serves a dual purpose. While housing self-care products and skincare items on the customer side, it creates an efficient workflow behind the scenes. Staff can seamlessly access the robot-dispensed medications through integrated compartments, ensuring a smooth and error-free process. Customers appreciate being able to witness this technological precision, which reinforces confidence in the accuracy and safety of their medication dispensing.
The interior breathes tranquility with its soft shapes and light tones. The white Corian counter contrasts beautifully with warm wood prints, while the green acrylic ceiling adds a fresh touch. The subtle LED fixtures provide friendly, sustainable lighting that bathes everything in warm daylight.
Every design element has been carefully considered to create a healing environment rather than a clinical one. The rounded forms eliminate sharp edges, creating a sense of flow and comfort that puts visitors at ease. The material palette was specifically chosen to feel approachable and contemporary without being sterile. The indirect lighting system not only reduces energy consumption but also eliminates harsh shadows, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a modern retail space than a traditional hospital pharmacy. This thoughtful approach to design helps reduce anxiety for patients who may already be dealing with health concerns.
